6/7/2020  Planting Ceremony

Draft 1! Ideas!
Sidewalk Community wear a full skirt that swings open when you spin. Men too.. why not enjoy. Spin after the planting is over and music starts.
Vertical Community hang a T-shirt, any color, over the windowsill, draped over flat.  Spin the t-shirt after the planting is over, the building might just helicopter off the ground.

Thinking out loud here (6/2/2020). Hive mind.

We keep focus on NYC folks lost to covid. We  plant beauty and renewal in the wake of tragedy and also recognize many of those lives were due to racism.

Now let us not let go of covid but see connections.

So far:

Not sure how or what or who will appear.

After the 7pm clapping,
(3 min)

7:03…..
1. We bring up the sound bath or Lenape slow commemorative style drum beat. (3 min growth or as much time as feels right. The Sound bath minimum is 20 min usually.) For sound bath, the ground audience can lay on the earth sleeping—dead-style. (Ha Gads).

Sound stops.  Slowly get up.

10 min

2. To the Planting.

There is no music as bees, beavers, ants do the business. We move about passing the seedlings from inside grace. A connectivity of passing supplies (with masks and gloves, viral touching ew). (10-20 minutes. )

Possibly natural sound could be amplified —reflective of a natural pattern. Soundbath: Tess moved.  An indigenous Lenape water drum, or sound could be the Irish “dadacaching, dadadcaching, dadadadadcaching” a pattern. We have Susan who maybe can do this. Or a heartbeat bc I have Micky Heart’s heartbeat music on cd. What we have around is what it will be.

People might leave their windows during planting silence but the ground audience might help hold people to the show signaling to keep watching.

Maybe we ask our vertical audience to sprinkle oatmeal in the beginning — inclusive participation.

Softly oats float down with the sound. Birds fly In to eat oats. (Or the robin from the children’s garden will naturally come for worms.)

3. Cut to
A big drum beat that resonates. Boom m m m m m.

As a swift unveiling of the answer to “what would be an iconic, non verbal positive change that speaks current life?”

The answer is a prop reveal, banner unfurling, a banner drop. Simultaneously after the unfurling…  Gardeners disperse, take a vocal leaps out of planter, hula hoop seeds spreaders enter plaza — with the audience. A coming together. 6 ft apart
(8 secs)

Sufis swirling in seed spreaders. Pigeons fly.

Indoor audience spins a hand towel, Or waves arms like a bird.  The building takes to flight.

6. Finalè.  builds✨

The solo drum is joined by other musicians into melting pot dance fusion — an afro cuban oriental salsa hip hop house folk jazz concerto.
‍♀️A piazza dance party.
Ha. (3-10 min. )

During the dance The Seed Spreaders Hoop Skirts’ colorful fabric unfurls as it is wrapped around the fencing. Maybe there’s a group of women with big bomba skirts to join us?

An end?
Maybe we come together and bow to say thank you for planting seedlings.

Our a human right to “plant perennial food everywhere”. “Stop hurting black people“  now. Allow us all to grow to be the best we can be. Never go back, flatten the curve. Focus on creating clean water, air & soil as an inherent by-product if everything we do.

MoS Collective insists: put forth immediate funds to increase permaculture urban ag businesses in neighborhoods that also restore air, water, and soil as a byproduct of what we do. Let us plant now. start justice now, clean the river now.
