Bokashi Fermented Starter

MoS Bokashi Fermented Starter

Bokashi Fermented Starter, made with organic wheat bran and molasses and fermented, is surely the easiest way to compost. You can ferment everything together, no sorting needed. It is also convenient: no need for worm bin, no need for outdoor area, no need for immediate disposal. No more smelly, rotting kitchens and waste bins, no more vermin, and best of all, no more good food scraps wasted!

Bokashi starter is made with Cocoa husks, which makes it smell like chocolate. The cocoa will be carefully crushed and mixed with the EM-1 and molasses, then put in big 5-gallon containers to ferment for 10 days. The EM-1 microbial solution naturally occurring food based microbes.

It is good at bioremediation. So if people are tossing in processed foods the microbial eaters will bioremediate the toxins that conventional food production uses.

What to do with the Bokashi fermented food scraps?

There’s no rush to get the waste out of the house. The fermented waste, as long as it is sealed in a container, is just going to ferment more. Then you can:

  • Sign up for a service that picks up the waste every month.
  • Donate the fertilizer to a garden that can process it.
  • Learn how to use the fertilizer yourself to remediate an empty lot near you! Come to our workshops with Shig or go to one of his workshops to learn more.

Order:

  • Bokashi Fermented Starter from MoS for only $15/pound. Pick-up at either the East Village, NYC or at our workshops.
  • MoS Collective members $12 a pound.
