Saugerties, NY in the Hudson Valley

Three mudballs in Saugerties

July-Sept 2024 MoS Collective is at Arm of the Sea’s (armofthesea.org) Tidewater Center expanding our Lifestyles of Bioremediation & Symbiosis (LivingLoBS). Please Connect with us just to connect and say hi or collaborate: message here. That’s the whole point …. we are growing a very robust local network of likemindeds so this idea works as well as it does in NYC. We attract permaculture, ecosystem restorerers, artists, visionaries, followers, leaders, scientists, gardeners, food sovereignty, media makers, puppeteers, sailors, kayakers, bicycle beach goers, community organizers, performers, writers, tech minded.

Collecting Phragmites for raft

Collecting Phragmites for raft

We are conducting tests and seeking scientist minded data keepers  (or we’ll make our observations). Seeking a healthier estuary as a by product of our lifestyles. Is this even possible?  We’re going to try. We are living the chronicles of the MoS Microbes to MetropolisTM pedagogy by way of the first chronicle, The Hpmmmmm tm Series (p is silent). In September, we’ll have a culmination of our accumulations in the form of a Floating Bioremediating Sculpture (FBS), a biomimicry effort to float a natural super charged mini eco system to restore abundance.  The FBS might float & embed itself off the sand bar island. The sand bar island has a lot of potential itself also.   Stay tuned.

Current relationship building that are be helpful:

– mycologist amateur or expert to assist or lead some groovy experiments with biotextiles and oyster mushrooms.

– soil testing

– weavers – basket weavers. Anyone with time on their hands who can help weave the raft.

– goats, sheep. We’re accumulating hair, fur fleece. Two bags at least.

– sew burlap into 2 tubes.

– willow tree wisps.

Thank you Arm of the Sea Theater for the space at the Tidewater Center with use of the old bus as our growing Laboratory for the ephemeral MoSLoBSLab.  Thanks to Amanda Cassiday cofounder of Engather Community for hosting Mudball workshop with DD. Diana Seiler of HudsonValleyThaiMassage & Soil to Soul events for spreading the call.  Participants: Jill Olesker of Esopus Stories, Leslie Ruckman, Christa & Alex Mattia, Soyal Smalls and Daughter, Johanna Grabiarz and Apollo, Sarah and Adam. Adam, estuary fish-finder for Tidewater, and I will be conducting an EM-1 Mudball test in large glass jugs.

Here’s the location right on the Esopus River at the mouth of the Hudson. The former Puppet tour bus is available for storage.  It’s becoming MoSLoBSLab as we stockpile and brew kombucha SCOBY skin, store the phragmites, stockpile the fermented mud balls, seed balls, moss paint supplies, activated EM-1, sample if the miniature FBS, a mycohairboom and more!
