6/24: The Spread! at the Traditional Food Pot Luck

Claudia Keel, nutritionist herbalist, is the chapter head for the Westen A Price Foundation — NYC Chapter. She coordinates opportunities to buy on line and pick up traditional foods in NYC. They have a facebook page with a web site to come.   facebook.com/WAPF.NYC

It was at El Jardin Garden in the East Village, NYC.

I got the reminder on Facebook in the nick of time. Before racing over, I reached into the fridge and pulled out a jar of savory canned peaches and a selection pack of local beers from Six Point Brewery in Red Hook Brooklyn and from Ommegang Brewery in Cooperstown NY (Authentic Belgium brew secrets).

I was just in-time for the last of the tasty almost sweet Rosehip Soup and Swedish colostrum pudding with strawberry sauce. I was offered some chopped kale butter by a frenchman who also made the lamb heart meatballs : – ….

I brought home some leftovers.. a portion of the Caspian Sea Yogurt as starter for new yogurt. Buy milk: add 10%, sit for 12 hours 70-90 degrees F. Wala. No heating, no straining. Eat 90% of the yogurt and start over with the remaining 10%. EASY!

Garlic Scape Pesto from “Lucky(?) Dog Farm” and homemade Kimchi for lunch the next day on toast.

Claudia’s thankyou post with the list from the spread.

For recipies email her or me and we will collect them. I have to find the peach canning recipe. I will start adding recipes to this site.

Thanks to all who came to the WAPF garden potluck despite the 2 early downpours last evening!

And special thanks to the many intrepid ones who came early during the down pour for the herb walk  were able to have a lovely herb walk. I was happy to share the beauty of the garden and unsung virtues of the weeds with you all. I’ll offer a fall weed walk as well.

I am including our new traditional  food resource list in the making. It is a limited draft and already I will be adding a number of  other sources — but if you have an sources of traditional foods please do let us know.. And after this we hope to start on a restaurant list.

Come fall we will be  having  more gatherings and classes  (and hopefully a website of resources at long last) — If there is a particular topic health or food preparation you would like to have classes on let us know.

I myself will be out of touch over the summer but Johanna will still be maintaining the facebook page. Do feel free to use that for community postings and comments if you use facebook.

Wishing you all good health, good food and good times for this coming summer!

Claudia
