Here is the blue shell in action eating balls.  I put a seedling pot in the hole as a temporary fix which worked great until it was removed by a curious George. Photo of before on next page.

Ball going into the tube... to be consumed and never expelled. --- the tube inside was broken and was eating balls.

After Revitalization: What a relief. Much better for us.

Alas, it was time to remove, “deinstall”, rip up the snail shell — the high road –which was more challenging than the low road. I was repairing it every other week so far. Done w that. The damage to the “pooper” tube was the end of my dedication.
We built a very physical course so it got a lot of interesting and creative use. Somehow the aluminum metal tube (” the pooper” which brought the ball from top of shell toward the hole below) was punctured. There was a breakage inside at the point in which the tube bends from vertical to horizontal. Someone must have stuck their golf club in the hole. Thus every skilled adult and child who succeeded in getting the ball up the shell-hill consequently were rewarded with the eating of their ball. Hahahaha..but that was not the intention. Many many balls were consumed. This is funny bc some people are hesitant to pop the ball into that hole for fear of never seeing it again. (“How silly” i thought– “why would we do that?”). Now their fear has come true. (I guess the volunteers didn’t mind bc no one put a sign up or closed the top hole. Duct tape was put over the exit — not much help since the balls never can come out of there.

A few weeks ago I went to the island for minor “pooper” repair. Brilliantly I placed an empty seedling pot in the hole (thank Tonya for that idea) which fit perfectly & worked as a ball catcher. The hole catch was gone… no where in sight.

August 4th, 2011. Italo and I decided the shell had to be removed. So there it went.

We tore the heavy heavy “shell” off the platform. We rolled it across the grass as the golf balls tumbled inside, It cracked and crumbled to bits leaving it’s trail of residue. We removed all balls from its’ belly.

How are are the food plants? They were not looking good but they were hanging-in-there. Italo completed the drip irrigation for the 6 plants and added some soil on top. We didn’t have time to mulch. The strawberries and collards did not survive the heat in July.

WALA A new version of the micro bug food spiral!!!

Glorious. I am looking forward to seeing how people like it.
